Attracting the next generation of workers into the construction industry
Steven Crosley represented McCownGordon as part of a Builders Association panel focused on attracting the next generation of workers into the construction industry. Steven shared he started in the industry on a rough in crew in high school and worked as a laborer while he completed his bachelor’s degree at UCM. After college, Steven began work in project management, and is currently the Operations Training Manager at McCownGordon.
Along with panelists Bill Alexander (Alexander Mechanical) and Tina Read (Masons Local 518), Steven shared how current industry professionals have a responsibility to promote the construction industry to today’s youth.
Steven emphasized the immediate need for workforce development. Citing data from a recent Automatic Data Processing study, Steven noted 41% of the current construction workforce is scheduled to retire by 2031. “It’s all hands on deck to keep building our workforce. Consider hosting a student for a job shadow day or offering a project site tour.”
